Showers of Blessing

Are you aware there is a ministry here in town providing showers and haircuts to the homeless and poor of our community?  Yes, this was the innovation of Crestwood.  It is called Showers of Blessing.

It started August 12, 2012 by the collaborative efforts of Crestwood Christian Fellowship and First United Methodist Church providing the volunteer backbone, the hospitality foods, hair salon, limited undergarment distribution, toiletries, and even seasonal items.  Since that day there is now a third volunteer support team and that is the Korean Methodist Church whose assistance is immeasurable.

Today we have periodic donations from other church collections, businesses, individuals, and agencies. These donations, whether goods or funds, are a boost to our ability to provide more of the basic needs when our guests come to shower but we still need a lot more help.  The showers are available every Monday morning from 8am to 12pm, including holidays.  We are averaging 30 showers and 15 haircuts each Monday.  We look forward to opening another day of the week but cannot do so until we increase our volunteer base and donations.  Join with us and make a difference in the lives of these people working on improving their lives.

Every third month Crestwood takes their turn to provide the hospitality foods, usually muffins, fruit, cheese, burritos, sandwiches and just about anything else that sounds good.  This year 2015 we are scheduled for February, May, August, November, and so on.  There are no signups, we will announce it all month and you bring what you can each Sunday morning of that month.

Would your company, service club, family or neighborhood want to help out?  Consider these fun ways to get involved:

✓ Collection – T shirts, Underwear or Socks for men and women

✓ Hospitality – Bake or buy breakfast goodies for one month (4 Mondays for approximately 50 persons)

✓ Collection – Toiletries: Personal size of shampoos, conditioners, soap

✓ Collection for Specialty Items – Hairbrushes/Combs, Deodorant, Toothbrushes, or Toothpaste

✓ Resources – Invite your resource group to come on a Monday and provide information on their services

✓ Prayer/Consoling – Come on a Monday and pray/console with the Guests
